Research • Archive Scans

I visited the archive again, to take a closer look at the images from Victoria Crescent that I had used for my rephotography the other day, and decided to scan them in, in a higher quality, to maintain a professional edge to my image when it is to be printed and framed.

Summary • Barclays Brief

We visited Barclays with two lecturers from University and some fellow peers to meet with the potential clients and to gain and insight into what was required from the brief. We was first required to go on a "speed dating"exercise, to meet with the people who had been chosen for this project, and tell them our ideas.

My original idea was to capture the idea of hobbies, and challenge the well known stereotypical view of bankers being boring and living for their job. Upon talking to the people selected for the brief, they did not seem overly interested in the concept and were not excited to be taking part in it. Therefore, I asked a group of girls for their ideas, and they said they wanted to partake in something fun and entertaining, as they did not really like their photograph being taken. I changed my idea from this feedback and chose to use powder paint to have the subjects have a paint fight on the grounds of Barclays (just due to the space they have). I wanted to capture candid photographs as they moved and had fun, and also capture the friendship these girls have with each other through work, regardless of the fact that they work in different departments.

I planned my photo shoot in great detail, but this week we have been informed that the group of girls I planned to use were no longer available due to other commitments. I'm gutted about this, as I was really looking forward to capturing a fun and colourful photo shoot for such a well known company. Instead, I plan to conduct an interview with a freelance photographer or videographer, to gain an insight into what the freelance pathway is really like, and if I would still be interested in pursuing a freelance career after hearing about the struggles of it.

Research • Location Visit

We visited our location again, but this time we took print outs of the images for reference, as referring back to a phone screen all the time when trying to capture the perfect shot for this brief. I chose a street to concentrate on, which was Victoria Crescent. I found that the photographs in the archive were more concentrated on the houses there, and the architecture in that particular area had not changed much at all. I plan to visit the location again and concentrate on Victoria Crescent for the overall project, as the architecture has remained pretty much the same, and I think it will be interesting to echo the work of Nicky Bird, and compare the current landscape to the old one and draw upon the similarities.
